
Volleyball Sweeps GPAC Player of the Week Awards
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) is proud to announce the following volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played October 7-13, 2024. Miriam Miller received the GPAC Defender of the Week, Alexis Pontine received the GPAC Setter of the Week, and Majesta Valasek received the GPAC Attacker of the Week. This marks the first time since the 2016 season that Hastings Volleyball has swept the conference player of the week awards.
Valasek, a senior, from Broken Bow, Nebraska, totaled 37 kills for the week, averaging 4.62 kills per set. She had 23 kills with a .365 hitting percentage in their five-set win over Dakota Wesleyan. For the week, she also had 14 digs, six blocks, and two assists.
Pontine, a junior from Ignacio, Colorado, led the Broncos to a 2-0 week as she posted 64 assists in their five-set win over Dakota Wesleyan, averaging 12.80 assists per set. She followed that up with 43 assists, good for 14.33 assists per set, in their 3-0 win over Waldorf. For the week Pontine had 107 assists by averaging 13.38 assists per set, 24 digs, and 4 kills.
Miller, a senior, from Lincoln, Nebraska, moved into fifth place on the all-time digs list in school history on Saturday, as she finished the 3-0 win over Waldorf with 35 digs by averaging 11.67 digs per set. In the five-set win over Dakota Wesleyan with 35 digs with 7.00 digs per set. For the week Miller totaled 70 digs for an average of 8.75 digs per set, 8 assists, and 2 service aces.
Hastings will travel to Sioux City, IA to play Briar Cliff on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3pm.
