
Rowe Qualifies for Nationals in 400m Hurdles at UNK Meet
(Kearney, NE) – The women's track and field team wrapped up the Central Nebraska Challenge on Friday. The event was held at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
In the throwing events, junior Kylee Hasselmann finished 16th in the hammer with a toss of 43.56m. Freshman Ellie Lloyd finished 35th in the discus (34.84m).
In the javelin throw, Lloyd finished 11th with a throw of 24.24m. Freshman Kamerin Turner also finished 23rd in the event (27.07m) and freshman Lucy Carey placed 27th (25.41m). Senior Zailee Poulson placed 29th with a javelin throw of 23.24m.
In the high jump, Poulson finished seventh with a top jump of 5'1.50. In the triple jump junior Trinity Doublin finished in 13th place (10.29m). In the long jump, Turner placed 26th with a jump of 4.79m. Junior Trinity Doublin also placed 33rd in the event with a 4.46m.
In the 4x100m relay, Turner, Ava Reese, Cecilia Velarde, and Lucy Carey placed fifth with a time of 51.52. Turner was also 32nd in the 200m (27.23).
In the 5000m race walk, junior Ava Brackhan finished first with a time of 33:46.23. Freshman Destini Johnson finished second in the event with a time of 35:58.82.
In the 1500 meters, senior Cynthia Chaparro-Belloc finished 30th with a time of 5:27.71. Also placing were senior Shania Santos at 35th (5:37.43) and sophomore Whitney Cure, who placed 41st with a time of 5:53.99.
In the 100m hurdles, junior Jaida Rowe finished third with a time of 14.46. Junior Kathryn Columbus also placed 24th in the event (18.63). Rowe also placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.18, which was a B-Standard time. In that event, Carey placed third (1:07.94) and Reese finished 10th (1:24.37).
In the 800m, senior Cecilia Velarde finished 12th with 2:35.21.
Next the women's team takes on the Concordia Outdoor Invite in Seward, NE on Friday, April. 4th at 2pm.
