Men's Tennis Drops Match to Metropolitan State
(Lexington, NE) – The men's tennis team returned to the courts after two weeks off, this time in Lexington, NE. The Broncos played Division II Metropolitan State University of Denver, where they lost 7-0.
The Roadrunners took the doubles point by winning all three matches. Hastings was able to get a game in all three matches, while senior Nick Smeltzer and freshman Ethan Zimmerman managed to get two games at three doubles.
Smeltzer had the most success of anyone in the singles matches, winning six total games in his 6-4, 6-2 loss at two singles. Zimmerman and fellow freshman Joel Carter both won four games in their singles matches, at six and one singles, respectively.
Metropolitan State won at three, four, and five singles by losing just two games to claim the 7-0 win.
Up next, Hastings will play another Division II opponent, Colorado Mesa, in Kearney, NE on Friday, Feb. 21 at 8am inside the Grundy Tennis Center. Hastings' match versus Tabor that was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18 has been postponed to a later date.
