
Men's Tennis Comes Up Short at Midland
(Fremont, NE) – In a battle with conference rival Midland, the Hastings Broncos lost 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Midland took the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches, as they won 6-2 at #1 and and #2 singles, then outlasted freshmen Alex Hafer and Ethan Zimmerman at #3 doubles, 6-3, to go up 1-0 in the match.
Freshman Joel Carter lost a close opening set at #2 singles, 6-4, then lost the second set 6-2. Hafer bounced back from a 6-1 first set to get three games in his second set loss at #3 singles. Fellow freshman Ben Hafer lost his #4 singles match 6-2, 6-2 in a contest that featured lots of deuce games.
Midland won at #1 and #5 singles by losing a combined three games to take a 6-0 lead. Zimmerman was able to keep the Broncos from getting shut out by winning at #6 singles. He cruised to a 6-3 first set win and came out on top in the second set tiebreak, 7-5, to make it a 6-1 final in favor of Midland.
