Lancers Drop Broncos, 7-0
(Hastings, NE) – The Mount Marty Lancers defeated the Broncos, 7-0, in Hastings' conference home opener on Wednesday.
At #2 doubles, senior Nick Smeltzer and junior Ethan Mins had the closest match, losing by one break, 6-4. Mount Marty took the #1 and #3 doubles matches by the score of 6-3 to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead going into singles.
Freshman Joel Carter had a very competitive match at #1 singles. He lost the first set 7-5, but came through in the second set tiebreak, winning 7-3, to force a third set super-tiebreak. In the super-tiebreak, the Lancers prevailed 10-7. Smeltzer, who competed at #2 singles, went to a first set tiebreak that went the way of the Lancers, 7-3, then lost a tight 6-4 second set.
Mount Marty lost all but four games at #3, #5, and #6 singles. The Lancers also took the #4 singles by taking 12 of the 14 games in the match, as they won the match 7-0.
Up next, Hastings will compete at Doane on Tuesday, April 1 at 2pm.
