Men's Tennis Opens Season in Colorado Tournament

(Colorado Springs, CO) – The Bronco men's tennis team wasted no time getting in matches, traveling to Colorado for fall matches after just a week of practice.

In the 'B' singles section, senior Nick Smeltzer was able to force a third set super tiebreak after winning his second set 6-3, but lost 10-6 in the tiebreak. Junior Ethan Mins and freshmen Ben Hafer and Alex Hafer dropped both of their matches in straight sets. Smeltzer received a bye in the consolation quarterfinals, but lost in the consolation semifinals in straight sets.

In the 'B' doubles singles section, Smeltzer and Mins, as well as Ben Hafer and Alex Hafer dropped their quarterfinal matches. The Hafer's were unable to pull out a win on the consolation side, but Smeltzer and Mins responded well by winning their consolation semifinal match 7-5 to earn a trip to the consolation final, which they won due to Metropolitan State's team retiring before the match started.

The Broncos next match will be an exhibition at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, NE on Thursday, September 12.
