Men's Tennis Gains 6-1 Win over Crown College
(Minneapolis, MN) – In their second and final spring break match of their Minnesota trip, the men's tennis team added a 6-1 win over the Crown College Polars.
The #1 doubles teams of freshmen Joel Carter and Ben Hafer won their match, 6-1, as did senior Nick Smeltzer and junior Ethan Mins at #2 doubles. The #3 doubles match was slightly closer, but the freshmen tandem of Alex Hafer and Ethan Zimmerman won their matchup, 6-2 to go up 1-0 in the match with the doubles point.
Carter and Smeltzer lost two combined games in their matches at #1 and #2 singles to put Hastings up 3-0 and B. Hafer won at #4 singles with a double-bagel to clinch the match for the Broncos.
Mins picked a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles, and while Crown outlasted Hastings in a third set super-tiebreak at #3 singles, Zimmerman delivered a third set super-tiebreak win at #6 singles at 10-8 to make it a 6-1 final.
Up next, Hastings will begin conference action at Morningside on Saturday, Mar. 22 at 12pm.
