Men's Tennis Comes Up Short Against Bluejays
(Hastings, NE) – The men's tennis team got behind 1-0 after the doubles point and could never quite recover, losing 5-2 to the Tabor Bluejays on Thursday.
The Broncos' #3 doubles team of senior Nick Smeltzer and Ethan Zimmerman trailed 4-1 early, but rallied to get within one at 5-4, before losing 6-4. Tabor won 6-0 at #1 doubles and 6-2 at #2 doubles to win all three doubles matches for the point to go up, 1-0.
Tabor kept the momentum by winning at #1 singles, but Hastings got on the board with Smeltzer winning his #2 singles match convincingly, 6-4, 6-0. The Bluejays won the #3 singles match, despite Hastings keeping the second set close, then freshman Ben Hafer pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 win at #4 singles to make it a 3-2 deficit on the scoreboard.
With Hastings needing the last two singles matches to get the win, Tabor held the Broncos off by winning at five singles, 6-1, 6-2, and at six singles, 6-3, 6-4 to get the 5-2 win.
Hastings will be back on their home courts tomorrow against Avila at 3:30pm.
