
Women's Tennis Blanks Mount Marty, 7-0
(Hastings, NE) – The Broncos were dominant in their conference home opener on Wednesday, knocking off the Mount Marty Lancers, 7-0.
With Mount Marty having only five active players, Hastings opened with a 1-0 lead from six singles and one win away from the doubles point. The #2 doubles team of freshmen Lexi Benson and Cara Ansbach clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win, then the #1 doubles team of sophomores Victoria Harris and Josline Carter won by a 6-3 score to complete the doubles sweep and went up 2-0.
Hastings won all five singles matches, as Carter won her first set at #1 singles, 6-3, and with the score at five-all in the second, she won the last two games of set two to win, 7-5. At #2 singles, Harris won a first set tiebreak, 7-4, then cruised to a 6-2 second set.
Junior Paige Willcoxon won her first set at #3 singles, 6-3, then after losing the second set, she managed to win the third set super-tiebreak, 10-4. Ansbach rallied from a 4-3 first set deficit to take the set at #4 singles, 6-4, and kept the momentum going through the second, winning 6-1. At #5 singles, Benson won all but two games in her 6-1, 6-1 victory as Hastings completed the 7-0 shutout.
