
Tigers Steal Double-Header from Broncos
(Hastings, NE) – The Hastings College Broncos took on the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in a double-header. Hastings lost game one, 3-1, and lost a close second game, 7-5.
In the bottom of the first inning, sophomore Kaylee Pinneo gave the Broncos an early 1-0 lead with a hit to center field that allowed senior Isabel Tanabe to cross home plate for the game's first run.
The Tigers answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 1-1 with their own run. The game was a pitching battle with wind speeds up to 40 mph. Broncos' pitcher junior Kiera Brack allowed just six hits through the first nine innings. The score remained locked until the bottom of the tenth inning, when the Tigers pushed across the winning run to secure a 2-1 victory.
In game two, the Tigers took an early lead by scoring the first run in the opening inning, putting them up 1-0. The Broncos quickly responded, evening the score at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the first.
The Tigers extended their lead to 3-1 by scoring two more runs in the top of the third inning.
The Broncos gained the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Ana Medeiros hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Tanabe. Senior Lexie Mudloff then singled to right field, driving in an RBI as Pinneo advanced to third and senior Shey Storesund scored. Mudloff stole second, and junior Katyn Kappler followed with a single to left center, bringing Mudloff and Pinneo home to make the score 5-3.
In the top of the fifth, the Tigers got two runs, making the score tied at 5-5. The Tigers continued their momentum by getting two more runs to seal the deal in the top of the sixth inning, making the final score 7-5.
