
Softball Falls to (RV) Evangel and #9 Our Lady of the Lake
(Branson, MO) – At the Branson Grand Slam tournament, the Hastings College Broncos faced off against the (RV) Evangel Valor. The game got off to an intense start, with the Broncos loading the bases with just one out in the first inning. Despite the promising opportunity, they were unable to capitalize and score. As the game progressed, Evangel managed to break the deadlock by scoring the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
As the game progressed, Evangel extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning by adding two more runs to their tally, showcasing the consistent performance of their batters at the plate. With the score now standing at 3-0 in favor of Evangel, the Broncos faced a challenging task to mount a comeback.
Despite the Broncos best effort to get back into the game, they were unable to get their offense going at the plate. In the end, Evangel came out swinging with a 3-0 victory over Hastings College.
In the Bronco's second game of the tournament, they faced the Our Lady of the Lake University Saints. Hastings College was taking care of business by senior Angelina Lockhart striking out their first batter, and grounded out their second. However, the Saints rebounded with an early homer to put themselves on the scoreboard with the first run of the game, making the score 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
The Saints built on their early momentum by executing another home run, extending their early lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning. With Hastings College eager to get points on the board, they stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second inning, but were unable to answer back.
In the bottom of the third inning senior Shey Storesund tried to steal the show by stealing second, and eventually advancing to third. The Broncos despite their best effort still did not touch home plate.
Our Lady of the Lake University added to their lead by scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth, and then scoring one last run in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hastings College Broncos broke the no-hitter as they managed to get two runners on base with just one out. However, their hopes were dashed as they grounded into a double play, missing out on a crucial scoring opportunity. The Saints defeated the Broncos 5-0.
