
Softball Drops Two Games at Dordt
(Sioux Center, IA) – The Hastings College Broncos took on the Dordt Defenders in a double-header on Friday. Hastings lost the opener, 11-3, and second game, 13-5.
In the opening inning of game one, the Defenders took an early lead with a 3-0 run. The Broncos quickly responded in the top of the third inning, with junior Ana Medeiros delivering a key hit that led to runs by junior Lauren Lee and sophomore Kaylee Pinneo. This was followed by a clutch double from junior Katyn Kappler, driving in senior Lexie Mudloff and Medeiros to level the score at 3-3.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Defenders got four runs off of five hits, making the score 7-3. The Defenders scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, making the final score 11-3.
In the second game, the Broncos surged ahead early as Medeiros smashed a home run to right center, bringing in four runs with Lee, senior Lauren Schneider, and senior Isabel Tanabe all scoring. Following, Mudloff hit a triple down the right field line in the next at-bat and scored on an error to take a 5-0 lead. The Defenders countered with six runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 6-5 lead.
Dordt extended their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning, making it 8-5. The Defenders continued to dominate in the bottom of the third inning, adding four more runs to make it 12-5.
A final run in the bottom of the fourth inning sealed the victory for the Defenders with a score of 13-5.
With Saturday's game against Waldorf postponed to a later date, the next games will be at home as the Broncos will take on Concordia in a double-header beginning at 4pm.
