Shotgun Sports Places 2nd Overall, Carpenter Takes 1st

(Arcadia, OK) - The Hastings shotgun sports team showed out in their first event of the spring semester, placing second as a team out of eight teams at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Shootout. 

Sophomore Tucker Carpenter won the men's individual shootout and junior Hunter Gilbertson was second, while sophomore Katrice Lyons was second in the women's individual shootout. Hastings was first among the eight teams in five-stand, second in doubles, and third in both trap and skeet.

Carpenter had a score of 322 by finishing second in doubles trap and five-stand, 10th in skeet, and 24rd in trap. Gilbertson took second with a score of 319 after finishing first in five-stand, third in trap, 14th in skeet, and 15th in double trap. Junior Austin Hofts placed second with a score of 314 by taking second in five-stand and fourth in skeet. 

Also competing for Hastings was senior Tanner Dager (14, score of 307), junior Hayden Thomason (17th with a score of 299), sophomore Chase Wieczorek (29th, score of 286), senior Rennick Turner (30th, score of 285), and senior Kyle Frederick (32nd, score of 284). 

Lyons, who was second in the women's division, was 39th overall with a score of 280. Sophomore Hannah Sears was also fifth in the women's division, placing 46th overall with a score of 275.

Up next, the Broncos will compete at the Concordia Bulldog Invitational two-day tournament beginning on Friday, Feb. 28 in Brainard, NE.
