
Miller and Pontine Collect GPAC Player of the Week Awards
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) is proud to announce the following volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played August 20-26, 2024. Miriam Miller received the GPAC Defender of the Week and Alexis Pontine received the GPAC Setter of the Week.
Miller controlled the games defensively all weekend as the Broncos went 4-0 in the Hastings Classic. She registered at least 24 digs in three of the games to average 5.53 digs per set, including 25 digs in the win over #24 Kansas Wesleyan. She had 71 receptions in the four wins and committed just 6 errors, good for a .915 receiving percentage. Miller also registered 14 assists and 2 service aces.
Pontine led the Broncos in assists in their 4-0 weekend at the Hastings Classic, registering 31 assists in three of the four games, which included 42 in their win over #24 Kansas Wesleyan. Pontine had 12 assists in the third set to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead over Kansas Wesleyan, then set up her teammate on match point for the game-winning kill in the fifth set after the Coyotes had fended off three match points to make it a one-point set at the time. Against William Woods, she had 17 of her 40 digs in the second set to put the match out of reach. She averaged 9.15 assists per set for the weekend, including 13.33 assists per set against William Woods. Pontine also added 27 digs, 4 block assists, and two service aces.
Hastings will have over a week off from action before they will host Doane in their conference opener on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:30pm in Lynn Farrell Arena.
