
Women's Tennis Avenges Loss to Nebraska Wesleyan, Wins 4-3
(Lincoln, NE) – The women's tennis team got their revenge from their 4-3 loss in the fall to Nebraska Wesleyan, winning 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon in their last match until the conference tournament.
Hastings came out on a mission, sweeping the doubles point to go ahead 1-0. Sophomores Josline Carter and Victoria Harris dominated at #1 doubles, winning 6-1. At #2 doubles, junior Paige Willcoxon and freshman Cara Ansbach held on to win 7-5 to clinch the point. Freshmen Lexi Benson and Kayleigh Cetak rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 6-5 lead at #3 doubles, eventually winning in a tiebreak 7-5.
Sophomore Victoria Harris made quick work at #2 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Fellow sophomore Abby Harveson followed her up with a 6-3, 7-5 win at #6 singles to put Hastings up 3-0. The Prairie Wolves were able rally from a 5-2 first set deficit to Ansbach to pick up a 7-6(4), 6-0 win at #4 singles, cutting the Hastings lead to 3-1.
Benson took her first set at #5 singles easily 6-0 and led 6-5 in the second set, but Nebraska Wesleyan forced a second set tiebreak, winning 7-5 to set up a third set super-tiebreak. The two were tied at three-all, then Benson won the next six points to go up 9-3, eventually winning 10-6 to clinch the match.
Both Carter and Willcoxon won the first sets of their matches at #1 and #3 singles respectively, but the Prairie Wolves managed to force a third set and won both to make the final score 4-3.
Up next, Hastings will play at the GPAC Tournament in Sioux City, IA that will start on Friday, April 25.
