
Men's Bowling Wraps Up Season at Nationals
(Sterling Heights, MI) – The Hastings men's bowling team competed at the NAIA National Championships on Thursday and Friday in Sterling Heights, MI. Seeded 11th in the bracket after the Baker games, Hastings lost 4-0 to #6-seed Concordia (MI) in their first match and 4-1 to #4-seed St. Francis (IL) in their second match to end their run at the Championships.
The Broncos traveled with a group of freshman Jimmie Bradley, junior Tyler Call, senior Brandon Engels, freshman Colin Jaster, sophomore Kaden Kuusela, sophomore Anthony Morella, sophomore Trevor Seeley, and senior Nathan Stinemates.
Hastings got off to a good start in the Baker games on Thursday to determine seeding, bowling an 846 in game one and an 837 in game two to be seventh out of the teams. The Broncos were unable to keep up the same pace in the last four Baker games, ultimately landing at the #11 seed.
In the first round against Concordia, the Cardinals scored 213 or higher in all four games, while Hastings couldn't get over the 200-point threshold. Hastings' best score of 197 came in the second game, as Concordia won the best-of-seven games, 4-0.
Facing St. Francis in the consolation bracket, the Fighting Saints narrowly won the first game 205-191. Hastings put up their best score of the two rounds, winning 218-150. The third set went the way of Saint Francis in another tight one, 202-188. Saint Francis topped 250 to run away with game four, then took game five 220-199 to conclude the Broncos' season.
The Broncos will look to build off of this years' national qualifying as they begin preparations for next season.
