
Schubert Breaks Points Record on Last-Minute Game-Winning Goal
(Sioux Center, IA) – Looking to get back in the win column after their 2-2 draw on Wednesday, the Hastings Broncos knocked off Dordt 2-1 on a last-minute header goal from super-senior Dekota Schubert. The goal gave Schubert the record for most points in women's soccer history at Hastings College with 175 points.
Hastings scored the lone goal of the first half in the 33rd minute as senior Dulce Lopez found fellow senior Allison Seery for a goal to put Hastings up 1-0 at halftime.
Seery led the team with two shot attempts, as Dordt actually outshot the Broncos 8-5 in the first half and 4-2 on shots on goal.
The Defenders scored early in the second half, putting a shot past freshman goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor to tie the match up at one apiece in the 51st minute, which was the lone shot by the Defenders in the second half.
Junior Megan Lampe found Schubert on a corner kick with less than a minute remaining, who headed the ball past the Dordt goalkeeper on the left side for the game-winning goal, winning 2-1.
For the game, Hastings outshot Dordt 14-9, including 9-1 in the second half, recording six shots on goal. After not taking a shot in the first half, Schubert took six shots in the second period, with three on goal, including the game-winner. Seery also took three shots for Hastings, while Villasenor had four saves.
With the win over Dordt and the loss by College of Saint Mary, Hastings has clinched the regular season GPAC title.
The Broncos will host Doane at 5:30pm on Saturday, Oct. 26 for their Homecoming matchup at Lloyd Wilson Field.
