Women's Soccer Match Ends in a Draw with Friends
(Hastings, NE) – Entering today a five-match win streak, Hastings took on Friends in their final game before conference play began, ending with a 0-0 draw.
The first half went scoreless, as Hastings took five shots to Friends' four. The Falcons got three shots on goal, compared to the Broncos' two, but sophomore Tatiana Villasenor saved all three opportunities.
Sophomore Cora Derby attempted a team-high two shots, including one on goal, with senior Jesse Chartier recording the other Bronco shot on goal in the 0-0 first half.
The second half featured few scoring opportunities for either team. Friends missed the first shot of the half in the 71st minute, then sophomore Kaylee Gentsch had her shot blocked. Villasenor saved a couple of shots moments later.
In the 84th minute, Chartier had an opportunity from just outside the penalty box on a free kick, but the shot sailed high. Sophomore Sabrina DeHart later had a header sail wide left off of a free kick in the 86th minute, ending the match in a 0-0 draw.
Hastings took eight shots to Friends' seven. The Falcons got five shots on goal, while Hastings had two shots on goal. Chartier and Derby led the team with two shot attempts, both with one on goal.
Up next, Hastings will begin conference play at Morningside on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 8pm.
