Broncos Escape Ottawa with 1-0 Victory

Broncos Escape Ottawa with 1-0 Victory

(Ottawa, KS) - Looking to start a new win streak, the Broncos did just that, defeating the Ottawa Braves on Wednesday night, 1-0.

Hastings controlled the game in the first half, shooting 11 shots to Ottawa's two, but the Braves goalie stood her ground and did not allow a first half goal. Hastings had 11 shots on goal in the opening period, including two by senior Dulce Lopez

The Broncos got the only goal of the game in the 67th minute by senior Dekota Schubert, scoring her fourth goal in the last three games to give Hastings the 1-0 lead. They would get 15 shots attempted in the second half, while keeping Ottawa to four in the second half to get the road win.

For the game Hastings took more shots (26-6), shots on goal (14-4), and corner kicks (7-1). The 13 saves from Ottawa would keep them in it, but the Broncos got the one goal they needed.

Schubert and fellow senior Allison Seery led the team in shots, as Schubert took six, Seery took seven, and both had four of their shots on goal. Lopez contributed three shots with two on goal, while senior goalkeeper Jackson Pedersen recorded another shutout by saving all four shots.

Hastings will play at home this weekend on Saturday, September 14 against Tabor College at 5:30pm. There will be a senior day ceremony before the start of the game so be sure to come early to tune in to that.
