Women's Soccer Scores 3 Goals to Beat Briar Cliff

(Sioux City, IA) – The Hastings women's soccer team traveled to Sioux City looking for their second straight win, ultimately winning 3-1 against Briar Cliff on Saturday.

Senior Grace Henry scored the first goal of the game in the 24th minute on an unassisted goal that initially looked like a pass, but had just enough spin to find the back of the net to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.

Senior Dekota Schubert scored the second goal one minute later off of a free kick pass from Megan Lampe. Schubert crossed the middle of the field as the pass drifted into the penalty box and knocked the ball down right in front of the Briar Cliff goalkeeper, gained control, and then fired a shot to the left side of the net to make it 2-0.

Hastings controlled the game offensively in the first half, taking 10 shots compared to five for Briar Cliff. Schubert led the team with four shots attempted and two shots on goal in the first half. Senior Allison Seery took two shots and senior Jackson Pedersen saved all three opportunities as Hastings led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Hastings got a goal from Seery in the 76th minute. Her first shot was blocked, but it bounced right back to her and she was able to knock it in for a 3-0 lead. Briar Cliff would score on a penalty kick in the 90th minute to eliminate the shutout, but Hastings secured the 3-1 victory.

Schubert finished the game with one goal on six shot attempts, three of which were on goal. Seery took four shots with two on goal, including her goal in the second half. Jackson gave up the late goal, but finished the win with six saves. As a team, Hastings outshot the Chargers 19-10 overall and 12-7 on shots on goal.

Up next, Hastings will go to Seward, NE on Wednesday, September 25 to face Concordia at 5:30pm in Bulldog Stadium.
