Top-Seeded Broncos Advance to GPAC Semifinals
(Hastings, NE) - In the quarterfinal matchup between the #1-seed Hastings Broncos and the #8-seed Midland Warriors, the Broncos pulled away for a 4-0 win on Saturday.
Hastings got on the board first on an own goal. The Midland defender appeared to be trying to clear the ball, but it was miskicked and ended up in the back of the net, putting Hastings up 1-0 in the 19th minute.
The Broncos went up 2-0 in the 40th minute after a corner kick from junior Megan Lampe was knocked down by the Warrior goalkeeper but bounced right to freshman Madison Rhodes, who kicked it into the goal.
The Warriors took more shots, 7-3, and shots on goal, 3-2, but it was Hastings that held the commanding 2-0 halftime advantage. Rhodes took two shots for the Broncos and senior Allison Seery took the other. Freshman goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor saved all three attempts in the opening half.
Hastings scored in the second half on a goal from senior Dakota Pritchard after the Midland goalkeeper was unable to secure the loose ball while colliding with Seery, giving Pritchard and the Broncos the scoring opportunity, as they took a 3-0 lead in the 80th minute. Sophomore MaKenna Lockhart added a fourth goal in the final minute from junior Jesse Chartier.
Up next, Hastings will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7pm, where they will host #4-seed Morningside, following their 2-0 win over #5-seed Briar Cliff.
