Flames Tie Up Broncos Late in Regular Season Finale
(Hastings, NE) - In their final game before the GPAC tournament, the Hastings Broncos match against the College of Saint Mary Flames ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Broncos kicked off the scoring in the 8th minute, as freshman Madison Rhodes scored off of a pass from senior Allison Seery. The Flames responded with a goal in the 12th minute to tie the game at one apiece.
Neither team had many more opportunities in the first half, as Hastings took four shots, while the Flames took three. Both teams had two shots on goal, with the game tied at one at the half. Seery led the Broncos with two shot attempts in the first half, while freshman Payton Tanner took the other shot on goal.
Junior Millie Gell scored a header on a corner kick from junior Megan Lampe in the 74th minute, but Hastings was whistled for a foul in the penalty box two minutes later and the Flames tied the match up at two on the penalty kick. The Broncos had a couple opportunities in the last 15 minutes, but the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Hastings took more shots, 14-9, and shots on goal, 7-3. Seery led the team with three shot attempts, while Gell, sophomore Madie Miles, and junior Jesse Chartier each took two shots. Freshman goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor recorded one save.
Hastings will host #8-seed Midland at 7pm on Saturday at Lloyd Wilson Field in the GPAC Quarterfinals.
