
Women's Soccer Dominates Northwestern 7-1
(Orange City, IA) - The Hastings Broncos continued their undefeated start to the conference season, defeating Northwestern 7-1 on Saturday.
Hastings took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a corner kick from junior Megan Lampe that was tipped in by the Northwestern goalkeeper. Northwestern responded with a goal ten minutes later, but the Broncos scored a goal before the half courtesy of senior Dulce Lopez from junior Millie Gell.
Hastings outshot Northwestern 10-2 in the first half, as they took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Lopez led the team with three shot attempts in the first period.
Senior Sara Pedroza opened the second half with a goal in the first minute of the period off of a pass from Lopez. Lopez scored her second goal of the game in the 58th minute to make it 4-1 off of a freshman Norah Stewart assist.
In the 77th minute, senior Dakota Pritchard found the back of the net, with Pedroza getting the assist. Hastings then scored a goal in the 71st minute when Lopez got her second assist, finding senior Allison Seery to take a 6-1 lead.
In the final minutes of the game, Hastings added one more goal, as freshman Kaylee Gentsch delivered the final goal from Gell, her second assist of the game, in the 7-1 rout.
For the game, Hastings outshot Northwestern 20-6 and 13-4 on shots on goal. Senior Dekota Schubert led the team with five shot attempts, while Lopez had four and Seery had three. Freshman Tatiana Villasenor filled in at goalkeeper and had saves, while senior Elizabeth Billings had a save as well.
Up next, Hastings will play at Mount Marty on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 5pm.
