
Late Goal Lifts Broncos to Win over Mount Marty
(Yankton, SD) - Following their highest scoring match of the season, the Hastings Broncos traveled to Yankton to play Mount Marty on Wednesday, where they beat the Lancers 1-0.
While Hastings attempted 16 shots in the first half, including 10 on goal, the Lancer backline held up, forcing a 0-0 halftime tie. Senior Dekota Schubert had an opportunity in the closing minutes of the first half, with a header that ricocheted off the crossbar, then a second shot that was just high off of a cross on a sliding attempt a few seconds later.
In the first half, senior Dulce Lopez took five shots, which included 3 shots on goal. Schubert also took four shots, with one on goal. Freshman Tatiana Villasenor started at goalkeeper and saved both opportunities in the first half to ensure the game remained tied going into the break.
The second half was much the same as the first, but the Broncos broke through in the second half when a shot in the box from freshman Sabrina DeHart glanced off of a Lancer defender and past the goalkeeper to go up 1-0 in the 77th minute.
For the match, Hastings took 29 shots to Mount Marty's three and 18 shots on goal compared to the Lancers' two. Schubert and Lopez six shot attempts apiece and three on goal. Freshman Madison Rhodes registered five shots and two on goal, while junior Megan Lampe took four shots with three on goal.
Up next, Hastings will host Waldorf on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 5:30pm.
