Women's Soccer Captures 3-0 Victory at Park

(Parkville, MO) – Looking to bounce back from their loss in the season-opener, the women's soccer team traveled to take on Park University, winning 3-0 on Wednesday evening.

Hastings got on the board in the 30th minute of the first half, as senior Jesse Chartier looped a pass over the Pirate defense, allowing sophomore Payton Tanner to track it down and kick it past the goalkeeper, who was late trying to cut off the pass.

The Broncos held the 1-0 lead going into halftime, leading on shots 7-5. Sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor blocked all three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of action, while Park only allowed one other shot on goal, coming from sophomore Sabrina DeHart, who led the Broncos with two shot attempts in the half.

In the second half, the Broncos shut out the Pirates again. Hastings scored in the 83rd minute of the game on a header that was initially deflected by Park, but went right to freshman Sofia Rabinovitz to score. Rabinovitz added a second goal late, scoring in the 89th minute on a pass from freshman Janessa Esquivel, giving Hastings their first win of the season, 3-0.

Hastings outshot the Pirates, 14-11, while both teams had four shots on goal. Freshman Avery Higgins led the team in shots with three, along with the two shots from Tanner, Rabinovitz, and DeHart. Villasenor added another save in the second half, bumping her tally up to four saves in the shutout performance.

Up next, Hastings will travel to Oklahoma City, OK to take on Mid-America Christian on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1pm.
