Women's Soccer Knocks Off #23 USAO, 2-1
(Chickasha, OK) – In their second and final game of their Oklahoma trip, Hastings scored twice in the first half and their defense made some big plays to come away victorious at #23 University of Science and Arts, 2-1.
Hastings took an early lead on a corner kick from senior Megan Lampe that was initially kicked off the crossbar by sophomore Peyton Tanner. The ball rebounded back in Hastings' favor to senior Millie Gell, who tapped it in to put the Broncos ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute.
Freshman Sofia Rabinovitz scored the second goal of the half in the 42nd minute after a free kick by Lampe was deflected to Rabinovitz by the USAO goalkeeper, putting the Broncos up 2-0 at the break.
The Drovers actually outshot the Broncos 8-5 in the first half and 4-2 on shots on goal, but the Broncos capitalized on their scoring opportunities and sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor saved all four opportunities.
USAO got on the board in the 56th minute, cutting the lead in half at 2-1. The Drovers got off 15 shots in the second half to Hastings' six, including eight on goal, but Villasenor came up with some great saves to fight off the USAO comeback. She made one final save on a header attempt in the 84th minute, as Hastings held on to win, 2-1.
Chartier led the team offensively with two shots, while Lampe recorded the lone shot on goal in the second half for the Broncos. Villasenor ended the game 12 saves on 13 attempts.
Up next, Hastings will host Ottawa on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 5:30pm.
