Rubio's Late Goal Propels Men's Soccer To Win Over Jamestown
Jamestown, ND – The Hastings College men's soccer team picked up a solid win by defeating Jamestown 2-1 on Wednesday evening in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.
The Broncos and the Jimmies were trying to get a feel for the game in the first half as only four shots were taken and the game remained scoreless into the second half.
Hastings then broke through in the 48th minute when Lewis Bowes knocked the ball free from a defender which sent Ayo Makinde into a one-on-one with keeper Charlie Clark. Makinde made it count by beating Clark low and to his right for the 1-0 lead.
The Jimmies would equalize in the 62nd minute with a goal from Wade McWhorter as things now began to intensify.
Hastings was struggling to get another shot off until the 76th minute when the break was on as Lewis Albert broke free down the right side and sent a cross in that Sandro Rubio put away to give the Broncos the 2-1 lead.
The Hastings back line stepped up big the rest of the way by not allowing a single shot over the final 14 minutes as the Broncos came away with the victory.
The Broncos out shot the Jimmies 9-to-5 while both teams finished with four shots on goal.
Hastings improves to 3-4-1 (2-0) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 23 as Waldorf comes to town with kickoff set for 5:30 pm out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
