
Men's Soccer Match Ends in 2-2 Draw at Northwestern
(Orange City, IA) - Coming into the day in a tie for second place in the GPAC, the Hastings Broncos finished with a 2-2 draw at Northwestern on Saturday night.
Northwestern struck early in the first half on a goal in the third minute of the game. Hastings responded with a goal from senior Joe Vokins in the 13th minute from freshman Tim Berger. With three minutes left in the first half, Vokins found freshman Moises Trochez for a goal to go into halftime leading 2-1.
While Hastings led 2-1 at halftime, Northwestern had more than twice as many shot attempts, 9-4, and had more shots on goal, 4-3. Berger had the other two shot attempts for the Broncos in the first half.
The second half featured just one goal, as Northwestern tied the game at two with a goal in the 56th minute. Hastings had six shots on goal in the second half, but were unable to score as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Both teams took more shots in the second half than in the first half, as Hastings took 14 and Northwestern took 11. For the game, the Red Raiders out shot the Broncos 20-18, though Hastings led 11-6 in shots on goal.
Vokins led the team with five shot attempts, followed by four shots from Berger. Vokins, Berger, and junior Juan Arteaga-Lopez each registered two shots on goal. Sophomore Landen Raulie started at goalkeeper for the Broncos, finishing the game with two saves.
