Broncos Win 4-3 Thriller over Lancers

(Yankton, SD) - The Hastings Broncos traveled to Yankton to play Mount Marty on Wednesday, where they outlasted the Lancers 4-3, in a match that featured three ties and with neither team scoring consecutive goals. Senior Lewis Albert scored the game-winning goal for the Broncos in the 87th minute, coming off of a senior Joe Vokins assist.

Freshman Nicolai Kostal got the Broncos on the board with a goal in the 11th minute from fellow freshman Moises Trochez, kicking it just past the diving Mount Marty goalkeeper to claim the 1-0 lead.

Mount Marty responded in the 38th minute to even it up at one apiece, but Trochez countered with a goal right before halftime after splitting a pair of defenders with some impressive dribbling to set it, giving Hastings a 2-1 halftime lead.

The Broncos led the first half in shots, 9-5, and shots on goal, 7-3. Freshman Tim Berger led the team in shot attempts with four and two of them on goal.

Mount Marty struck early in the second half, tying the game at two in the 47th minute. Hastings took the lead on a senior Ruben Bande goal in the 76th minute on a long pass from senior Joe Vokins, but the Lancers answered quickly with a goal in the 81st minute to make it 3-3.

Albert, on his lone shot of the night, scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute on a cross that was timed perfectly by Vokins as Hastings prevailed in the back-and-forth game, 4-3.

Both teams attempted 14 shots, with Mount Marty having one more shot on goal, 11-10. Berger ended the game with a team-high six shots, with three of them on goal. Vokins, who had the last two assists, also had a couple of shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Landen Raulie came up big with seven saves for the Broncos.

Up next, Hastings will host Waldorf on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8pm. The day also marks the men's soccer senior night, where the ceremony will take place at Lloyd Wilson field during halftime of the 5:30pm women's soccer game versus Waldorf.
