Men's Soccer Upsets #1-Seed Morningside to Advance to GPAC Final

(Sioux City, IA) – The men's soccer team continued their run in the GPAC Tournament by going to Sioux City and knocking off #1-seeded Morningside in the GPAC Semifinal, 2-0

Freshman Tim Berger scored the only goal of the first half on an unassisted goal to put the Broncos up 1-0, which proved to be the game-winning goal.

Morningside took seven shots in the first half, compared to the Hastings' six, but were unable to score. Senior Joe Vokins led the team with two shot attempts in the first half.

Berger wasn't done scoring, as he scored another unassisted goal in the 78th minute to put Hastings up 2-0. Both teams took eight shots in the second half and Morningside had a couple of shot attempts with under six minutes to go, but the Hastings defensive line held strong, keeping the shutout intact, as they held on to win 2-0.

Berger led the team with four shot attempts in the match, with three on goal. Vokins, senior Lewis Albert and senior Lewis Bowes each recorded three shot attempts. Senior Pablo Arce-Salinas had a shutout performance with his three saves.

Up next, #5 Hastings will play at #2 Concordia at 7pm on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
