Hastings Falls 2-1 to Kansas Wesleyan

(Salina, KS) - Playing in their second-to-last non-conference games of the season, the Hastings Broncos fell 2-1 to the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Wednesday night.

In a fairly even first half, it was the Broncos that broke through with a goal in the 24th minute after junior Juan Arteaga-Lopez passed it to freshman Tim Berger for the goal to take a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Coyotes actually outshot the Broncos 5-3 in the first half with each team having two shots on goal. Senior Ruben Bande recorded the other shot on goal for Hastings in the first half.

In the second half, however, Kansas Wesleyan's shots began to find the back of the net. They tied it up at one in the 47th minute and then took a 2-1 lead on a goal in the 70th minute. The Broncos had a couple of scoring opportunities late in the match, but the Coyotes held on, 2-1.

Kansas Wesleyan outshot the Broncos 13-4, as well as 6-3 on shots on goal. Bande led the Broncos with two shots on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Ethan Watkins recorded four saves.

Hastings will play at home this weekend on Saturday, September 14 against Tabor College at 8pm. The game also represents the men's soccer's second annual Alzheimer's Awareness Night, as they will have several displays to increase awareness of Alzheimers.
