Men's Soccer Moves to 3-0 in GPAC Action
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's soccer team found itself in a dog fight against Waldorf on Saturday evening but came out on top 2-1 out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
Early on play was pretty evenly match but it would be the Warriors that would strike first and it would come off a set piece. Waldorf's Lucas Berte sent a cross in from a corner kick that was low and bounced a round in the box until it fell at the feet of Alex Ardura where he put a shot on goal past Pablo Arce-Salinas. Hastings' Lewis Albert would get a foot on the ball but he couldn't keep it out of the goal as Waldorf had the 1-0 lead in the 24thminute.
That lead would hold into the later parts of the first half until Lewis Bowes sent a long cross into the box from 40 yards out that was perfectly placed where Ayo Makinde headed the equalizer past Charlie Austin-Ross in the 43rd minute.
From here, Hastings would control the pace and looked to maybe take the lead in the 56th minute when Ruben Bande hit a rocket from just inside the 18 but his shot hit the crossbar as the game remained knotted 1-1.
Hastings was finally rewarded for it efforts in the 62nd minute when Nils Schaefer sent in a beautiful cross that found an open Joe Vokins as his header slipped just inside the far post for the 2-1 lead.
The Broncos would go on and fend off the Warriors and pick up the one goal victory and improve to 2-0 all-time against Waldorf.
Hastings dominated the game by out shooting the Warriors 19-to-2 but just five of those shots were on frame while both of Waldorf's shots were on target.
Hastings is now 4-4-1 (3-0) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Sept. 27 hitting the road to take on Briar Cliff with kickoff set for 11:00 am in Fremont, NE.
