Men's Soccer Opens Up Conference Action With Win Over DWU

Men's Soccer Opens Up Conference Action With Win Over DWU

Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's soccer team got the Great Plains Athletic Conference season started on the right foot by defeating Dakota Wesleyan 3-0 on Saturday evening.

The Tigers came in with a 4-0 record but the Broncos were not fazed dominating from start to finish. Hastings got things going when the Broncos picked up a free kick just outside the 18 on the near side of the field. Joe Vokins sent in a perfect kick where Albert Lewis headed the ball past the keeper for the 1-0 lead in the 19thminute.

Hastings struck again in the 27th minute when Sandro Rubio sent in a great cross off the corner kick where Vokins would get a head on the ball and put it in the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

Hastings continued to dominate play and would round out the scoring in the 66th minute off yet another corner kick this time from Lewis Bowes as his left footed cross was met by the head of Ayo Makinde to make it 3-0 as the Broncos opened up GPAC play 1-0.

The Broncos absolutely dominated the action out shooting the Tigers 22-to-5 including 9-to-0 in shots on goal.

Hastings improves to 2-4-1 on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Sept. 20 hitting the road to take on Jamestown with kickoff set for 5:30 pm in Jamestown, ND.
