Women's Soccer Upset by Dordt in GPAC Semifinals
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team just couldn't find the shot that would hit the back of the net as Dordt upset Hastings 1-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference semifinal on Tuesday night out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
The Lady Broncos peppered the goal all night but Lydia Zylstra was up to the task at keeping Hastings off the scoreboard.
Hastings looked to catch a break when a handball was called in the box in the 32nd minute setting up a penalty kick for Dekota Schubert. But Schubert's shot was turned back by Zylstra in the 32nd minute.
HC had a few more opportunities but couldn't find the net as the game went to halftime tied 0-0.
Hastings would keep up the pressure in the second half but it would be a very different set piece off a corner that gave the Defenders the edge. Elli Stuart started the corner by just touching it and leaving the ball in the corner making it look like they were just changing kickers. Then Karinna Tel took the ball and ripped a shot that deflected past Jackson Pedersen and into the goal for the 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute.
HC felt the pressure and continued to take shots but nothing worked its way past Zylstra as it would be Dordt coming away with the 1-0 win to move into the GPAC Championship game on Friday.
Hastings out shot Dordt 22-to-5 and 10-to-2 in shots on goal
Hastings is now 16-2-2 on the year and will wait till Monday to find out where they will travel for the opening round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament.
