Schubert's 89th Minute Header Lifts Women's Soccer Past Bellevue
Bellevue, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team stunned Bellevue with an 89th minute goal to come away with the 1-0 victory on Wednesday night.
The Bruins and Broncos battled and were both in defensive mode for most of the contest. Neither team was able to generate much offense as the game was really played through midfield but Hastings used this same concept in the upset of Missouri Valley and it paid off in the 3-0 victory.
In the 89th minute, Hastings worked the ball to the near side to Dulce Lopez as she sent a cross into the box where Dekota Schubert headed the ball inside the post and past keeper Alessia Ricciardi for what proved to be the game winner with just over a minute to play.
Other than that goal, there was not much action in front of either net as the teams combined for five total shots on goal and a total of eight shots. There were just two corner kicks taken in the contest and both were taken by HC.
Jackson Pedersen finished with another clean sheet with two saves.
It was also a relatively clean game as the teams combined for just 14 fouls and one yellow card.
Hastings improves to 2-0 on the year and will be back in action Sunday Sept. 3 hitting the road to take on Baker with kickoff set for 5:30 pm in Baldwin City, KS.
