Pedroza Nets Game Winner; Pedersen Records Shutout in Win Over Midland
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team knew it had a pretty evenly matched game as Midland came to town but it was the Lady Broncos that came away with the 1-0 victory on Wednesday night out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
This was a game that was played mostly in the middle of the pitch as only a total of 14 shots were taken in the match.
Through the first 25 minutes, the teams were really trying to get a feel for how the other team was going to play especially with Midland's star goal keeper out due to injury. But I'm not even sure she could have stopped what was coming in the 28th minute.
Eva Dunker would force a turnover as the ball would end up with Naomi Pedroza as she took a few dribbles towards the 18 and then let off an absolute rocket of a shot over Kyla Pires' head and into the net for the 1-0 lead.
That would be the last shot taken by Hastings until the 73rd minute as Hastings mustered just two second half shots but managed to keep the Warriors at bay to hold on for the 1-0 win.
Hastings finished the game with eight total shots while Midland finished with six. Midland got just two shots on goal while Hastings finished with four.
Jackson Pedersen stopped both shots she faced to pick up the clean sheet.
Hastings is now 9-1-1 (4-1-1) on the year and will be back in action Sunday Oct. 8 hitting the road to take on Mount Marty with kickoff set for 3:30 pm up in Yankton, SD.
