Strong Second Half Propels Broncos to 3-0 Victory
(Hastings, NE) – With their sights set on starting a new winning streak, Hastings used three second half goals to take down Dordt, 3-0, at home on Saturday.
The Broncos controlled the possession for most of the first half, outshooting the Defenders 11-3 overall and 5-1 on shots on goal, but the Defenders kept the game at a scoreless tie going to the halftime break.
Freshman Avery Higgins led the Broncos with three shots in the first half, with one of those on goal. Junior Jasmin Bislev Nielsen also took two shots, registering one on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor saved her only opportunity in the half to keep the game tied.
Hastings broke the tie by getting on the board in the 57th minute when the cross from Bislev Nielsen led to a Higgins goal. Senior Megan Lampe padded the Bronco lead on a penalty kick goal in the 68th minute to go up 2-0. Senior Jesse Chartier scored the third goal of the half in the 71st minute from sophomore Norah Stewart to complete the 3-0 win.
For the game, Hastings outshot the Defenders 20-11 overall and 12-5 in shots on goal. Higgins took five shots with three on goal. Sophomore Madison Rhodes took four shots and had one on goal, while Lampe put all three of her shots on goal. Villasenor ended the shutout win with five saves.
