Men's Soccer Runs Past Jamestown

Men's Soccer Runs Past Jamestown

Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's soccer team took on Jamestown in Great Plains Athletic Conference action defeating the Jimmies 5-1 on Thursday night on Lloyd Wilson Field.

The Broncos were able utilized the first 20 minutes to get a feel for how the Jimmies were going to play and then a lob ball from Heitor Olivera found David Panter as he ripped a shot past Mathew English for the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Then Jamestown made a huge mistake by pulling Olivera's jersey where the ref clearly saw it inside the box as he called a penalty. Tyler Mase stepped up and calmly put away the penalty kick for the 2-0 lead in the 32nd minute.

The Broncos came out in the second half looking sharp as Lukas Goetz put a ball on the ground in the box where Kai Knuchel placed the shot perfectly for the 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.

Hastings would push the lead to 4-0 when Ryan Lewis connected with Paul Obrusnik in the 74th minute and added a fifth goal in the 88th minute when Alessandro Urlati found Panter as he drilled a shot past English to make it 5-0.

Jamestown would get lucky when a controversial penalty was called against Hastings in the box with just :06 remaining allowing Jon Torres to score off the PK as the game ended 5-1.

Hastings held a 20-to-2 advantage in shots along with a 10-to-1 advantage in shots on goal. Unfortunately, the game got a bit chippy as the Broncos ended the game with five yellow cards.

Hastings is now 4-1 (2-0) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 24 as Presentation comes to town with kick off set for 8:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
