Panter's Two Goals Plus Dally's Big Save Lift Broncos Past Vikings

Panter's Two Goals Plus Dally's Big Save Lift Broncos Past Vikings

Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's soccer team got off to a fast start and then held on to defeat Grand View 2-1 on opening night in front of a nice crowd on Lloyd Wilson Field.

The Broncos looked very strong to start the game putting immediate pressure on the Viking back line. That pressure paid off when Tyler Mase sent a low ball towards the near post where David Panter ran onto a put the ball into an open net for the 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.

In the 20th minute, Jackson Brown sent a ball into the box where Panter was able to flick the ball over the defender and then use the outside of his foot to chip the shot past Emiliano Laguna for the 2-0 lead.

Panter had two more golden opportunities in the first half but just couldn't finish the shots.

Grand View then worked a ball into the box where it found the foot of Rune Peterson as he put his shot past Brendan Dally to make it 2-1 heading into halftime.

Hastings really dominated play in the first half but definitely wasn't rewarded with a big lead as the game would change in the second half.

Physicality turned up a notch as the Vikings began to put pressure on Hastings and eventually had a great chance to tie the game with a penalty kick in the 63rd minute but Dally turned the Peterson shot back to keep it a 2-1 ball game.

Although Grand View put the pressure on, they never really threatened to score following the penalty kick as HC held on for the 2-1 victory.

Panter finished the game with two goals on four shots while Dally finished with the one huge save. Hastings did pick up four yellow cards compared to one for Grand View.

Hastings finished with a 9-to-2 advantage in shots including a 6-to-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Broncos improve to 1-0 on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Aug. 31 as Tabor comes to town with kickoff set for 8:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
