Baseball Drops Arizona Opener to OUAZ
Surprise, AZ – The Hastings College baseball team got off to a great start against Ottawa (AZ) but ended up losing 7-3 on Tuesday night on day one of its Arizona trip.
Jaden Stone led the top of the first off with an infield single to third. Then Matt Lucero drew a walk followed by a hit by pitch to Mason Masur to load the bases. Tyler Welsh ripped a RBI single to right and then Dylan Otto got hit by a pitch to score Lucero. With two outs, Jace Valdez picked up a RBI sac fly to right to make it 3-0.
Danny Wisor worked through two unblemished innings before the Spirit got things going in the third by scoring four runs to take the lead.
Unfortunately, the Broncos would be unable to string hits together the rest of the way in the 7-3 loss.
Stone finished the game goin 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
Hastings falls to 5-9 on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Mar. 6 taking on Embry-Riddle (AZ) with first pitch set for 3:00 pm.
