Brent Breckner - Alumni Coach of the Year
Currently he is the Principal at Osceola.
A Hastings native, Breckner was a First Team All-GPAC offensive lineman and two-time Academic All-American for the Hastings College Bronco Football team. Breckner spent two years as a student assistant for the Broncos before moving on to Doniphan-Trumbull High School. In 12 years at ADoniphan-Trumbull, Breckner has created a culture of excellence in athletics and academics while serving as a teacher, a coach, athletic director and now as the high school principal.
While at Doniphan-Trumbull, Breckner has served in various coaching roles including assistant coaching positions, Junior High Track, Head Varsity Wrestling and even as a coach of a traveling softball team. Breckner took over as the Head Football Coach of the Cardinals in 2009 with the task of improving the culture and attitude of the team, as Doniphan-Trumbull had a 27-50 record from 2000-2008 and had not won a playoff game since 1993.
In 2010, Breckner led Doniphan-Trumbull to the school's first playoff win in over 17 years. In 2012 the Cardinals were 9-3 and Class C-2 State Semi-Finalists, as the team averaged 483.3 yards and 41 points per game. It all came together in the 2013 season as Coach Brackner and the Cardinals put together another record-setting season finishing the year as the 2013 Class C-2 Football Champions with a perfect 13-0 record. The 2013 team averaged 455.7 yards per game and 39.2 points per game while allowing only 12 points per game. In addition, the Cardinals set the C-2 record for most yards in a playoff series with 2088 yards. The past four years the Cardinals have amassed a 32-12 record. Breckner was recognized as the 2013 Huskerland Prep C-2 Football Coach of the Year.
