Women's Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Win Over Briar Cliff

(Hastings, NE) – The women's soccer team was able to score two early goals and hold on to earn a 2-1 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers on Saturday night.
The Broncos began the scoring in the 25th minute on a goal from junior Kailani Smile, assisted by sophomore Payton Tanner. They added to their lead with an unassisted goal from senior Megan Lampe in the 34th minute to go up 2-0, which would hold until halftime.
In the first half, Hastings took five shots, three of which were on goal, and held the Chargers without a shot attempt. Senior Jesse Chartier had two shot attempts in the half, one of which was on goal.
Early in the second half on their first shot attempt, Briar Cliff made it a 2-1 game in the 49th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor made a couple of big saves in the 69th minute to preserve the lead. Villasenor later got saves in the 84th and 87th minute to secure the 3-2 win.
Briar Cliff managed to take six shots in the second half to Hastings' four and had a 6-1 advantage in the second half on shots on goal, but the Broncos held on for the 2-1 win. Chartier took a team-high five shots and Villasenor had five saves in six opportunities.
Up next, Hastings will play at Midland on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in their final regular season game.
