#1 Dordt Tops Broncos, 83-44

(Sioux Center, IA) – Taking on the undefeated #1 Dordt Defenders on the road, the #25 Hastings Broncos fell 83-44 on Saturday afternoon.

The first quarter began with very little scoring, as the first field goal occurred by Dordt three minutes into the game. Junior Macy Bryant made three free throws and sophomore Adyson Mlnarik got the Broncos' first field goal at the 4:38 mark, to make it 7-5 Dordt. Sophomore Ann Bose gave Hastings its first lead of the quarter on a three at 14-12 with 1:28 left in the period, but Dordt ended the quarter on a 8-0 run, including two triples in the final 40 seconds to go up 20-14.

Bryant scored inside to start the second quarter, but the Defenders countered with an 8-2 run to take a 10-point lead just over two minutes into the quarter. Mlnarik drained a three immediately after the Bronco timeout, but Dordt closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a 41-23 halftime lead.

Hastings was held to 19 percent shooting in the first half and made just two of their threes. The Broncos managed to capitalize at the line, going 9-10. Dordt held a 33-22 advantage on the glass and forced nine turnovers. Bryant had seven first half points to lead Hastings.

Dordt continued to control the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Broncos 27-14 in the quarter, and scoring the first four points of the half. Junior Bailey Kissinger then drained a three-pointer and senior Mariyah Avila got a steal in the backcourt, assisting Kissinger for a layup. Hastings got it as close as 14 on a three by Bose 90 seconds into the half, but Dordt took over from there, going on a 23-6 run over the final 8:30 of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Bose converted an and-one, as Hastings trailed 70-40 with 8:21 remaining. With Dordt leading 78-40 halfway through the fourth, both coaches started emptying their bench. Sophomore Olivia Malousek and freshman Catelynn Bargen came up with baskets late, as the Defenders got the win, 83-44.

For the game, Hastings was held to 21 percent overall and 17 percent from three. Dordt outrebounded the Broncos, 61-37, and 20-4 in second chance points. Bose had 10 points and four rebounds. Kissinger finished with nine points and four rebounds, while Bryant had seven points and three rebounds.

Up next, Hastings will play on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Tabor in Hillsboro, KS, beginning at 5pm.
