Mustang Volleyball Sweeps Hastings
(Sioux City, IA) – Taking on Morningside in a conference road test, the Hastings Broncos lost in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 19-25).
Hastings tied up the first set at eight with a kill by sophomore Makenna Sutter, but Morningside responded by winning seven of the next 10 points to go up 15-11. The Broncos kept it close and got to within one at 22-21 on another kill by Sutter, however the Mustangs won the next three points to win the set, 25-21.
After the Broncos took a 10-9 lead on a Morningside attacking error, the Mustangs regrouped and took control of the second set with a 10-5 run, making it 19-14. Two kills by Sutter and an ace by freshman Fran Warson made it 19-17, then Morningside won the next four points en route to a 25-19 second set win.
Morningside came out strong in the third by winning the first seven points. The Broncos came back with an ace from Sutter and a Mustang attacking error to make it a 12-9 deficit. Trailing 18-13, Hastings got it two within three again at 19-16, but Morningside found their stride shortly after to claim the third set, 25-19.
Sutter led the Broncos with 14 kills, senior Alexis Pontine and Warson had 15 and 14 assists, respectively, and Sutter also had a team-high 16 digs. Pontine and sophomore Lainey Benson also had 11 digs each.
Up next, Hastings will host Doane on Senior Day, beginning at 3pm on Saturday, Oct. 25.
