Men’s Golf Finishes Fall Season in Style, Wins RainDance
(Windsor, CO) - The Men's Golf team has finished the fall season in style, securing victory at RainDance National GC. It was a slow start the first day with a 8-over 296 followed by a 7-over 295. However, an impressive school record 8-under 280 (previous record was 3-under) on a day two that consistently had 25 mile per hour winds was enough to beat Rocky Mountain College by a single stroke in the team stroke play.
For the individual stroke play, senior Gabriel Escalera (67-73-67) got back to his winning ways and added another victory in his legendary Hastings College career, going wire-to-wire in the process. Junior Henry Kosmicki (74-72-69) also had a very impressive tournament, finishing in a tie for second (winning in a scorecard playoff).
Escalera tied the school record in round 1 and round 3 with a 5-under score. With seven total rounds of 5-under in school history, Escalera has five. His 54-hole score at 9-under broke his own school record by 2 strokes and broke the 54-hole tournament record at Raindance. Escalera has two of the lowest tournament rounds at 67.
In addition, junior individualist Max Nielsen (71-72-84) finished in a tie for 14th while freshman Blake Eddy (83-75-71) and junior Ryker Dunkley (78-78-73), who hit a hole-in-one on hole 14 on day one, both finished in a tie for 16th. Senior Nicolas Silva (77-75-80) was also part of the winning team, finishing in a tie for 19th individually.
Furthermore, although it wasn't the homecoming he was dreaming of, sophomore individualist Carter Hinkle (85-83-91) is still gonna remember this day when his teammates got the win in his backyard and he was there to see it all.
Job well done to head coach Skyler Good, as his semester introduced some new highs for the Men's Golf program and will resume next spring with more good things to come out of this program.
