Mattern Takes Home GPAC Men's Wrestler of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced that Koen Mattern has been named the Men's Wrestler of the Week for January 20-26, 2025.
Mattern pinned his Marian opponent less than three minutes into his opening match, and then had a 10-2 major decision over Mason Garcia of Concordia. He lost on a close 4-3 decision in the third round to Braden Morgan of Friends. Mattern rebounded on Saturday in the consolation bracket with wins over Jayden Joseph of Missouri Valley and Seth Suvak of Dickinson State before defeating 18th-ranked Randy Gonzalez of Missouri Valley. He also defeated 20th-ranked Eli Criblez of Doane and 14th-ranked Shane Mattson of Montana State-Northern. He was 7-2 at the meet, good for fifth place.
Mattern and the Broncos will wrestle next at York in a dual against the Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6pm.
