
Men's Wrestling Competes at Doane Open
(Crete, NE) - The Hastings men's wrestling team competed at the Conner Oppenheim Doane Open in Crete, NE on Saturday.
Junior Israel Manriquez had a great performance on the day at 157, winning his first match after his first-round bye on a 13-2 major decision over Jamestown. He lost his next match but went 2-1 on the consolation side, pinning his Dickinson State opponent at the 4:11 mark, then won 15-12 in a sudden victory over Midland. Manriquez ended his day by losing his third consolation match.
Junior Matheson Rodriguez pinned his Saint Ambrose University opponent at the 2:27 mark of his opening match at 197. After a second round loss, he won his first consolation match on a 21-5 tech fall, before falling in a 4-1 decision in his second consolation match.
Sophomore Logan Hackman dropped his opening matches at 133, but then went 2-1 in consolation, winning on a pair of decisions. Freshman Gant Browning also competed at 141, and after losing his first match he won his second by tech fall and pinned his third opponent at the 1:41 mark, before falling in his third consolation match.
Junior Dalton Michael defeated his Midland opponent on an 11-0 major decision at 141, but was unable to win either of his next two matches. Sophomore Nicholas Freeland dropped his opening match at 165, then won his first consolation match with a 14-4 major decision over Grand View, then lost his second consolation match.
Sophomore Trevor Leon won a 4-1 match by sudden victory for his lone win on the day at 184 and freshman Conall Liburdi also had a consolation victory by fall at 184. Freshman Aiden Griffin picked up a 12-7 decision consolation win over Briar Cliff at 197.
Up next, Hastings will host Midland for a dual on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7pm. The senior night match will take place in Kiewit Gymnasium right before the event.
