
Men's Wrestling Dominates Midland in Home Dual
(Hastings, NE) – On their senior night, the men's wrestling team made easy work of Midland, taking them down, 42-9 on Wednesday.
The match started at the 157 weight class in order to give senior Jack Morton the last match of the night at 149. In the first match, junior Israel Manriquez won on a 14-3 major decision. Sophomore Nicholas Freeland won his match at 165 by technical fall at the 1:19 mark. Freshman Esteban Sedano pinned his opponent with ease, dropping him just over a minute in to put Hastings up 15-0.
Midland would get on the board with a pin at 184, but junior Matheson Rodriguez came up with a late pin at 197 to give Hastings the momentum back with a 21-6 lead. Midland won at 285 on a close 2-0 decision, though that would be the last points that they would score.
Sophomore Creel Weber pinned Midland at the 3:35 mark at 125, then sophomore Justin Rodriguez and junior Dalton Michael secured wins by forfeit at 133 and 141. Morton was the lone senior who wrestled for Hastings on the night, and he came through at 149 in the final match with a 9-6 decision, giving the Broncos a 42-9 win.
Up next, Hastings will have a month off before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 to host the Hastings Open.
