
Men's Track and Field Compete at UNK Pre-Holiday Open
(Kearney, NE) – The Hastings indoor men's track and field team competed at their first event of the year at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic on Friday.
Sophomore Rafer Severson ran a great race in the 400m dash, winning the contest with a time of 51.18. Junior Tyler Salter came away victorious in the 800m with a time of 1:57.76. Freshman Evan Struss earned a top three finish, placing third in the mile (4:40.56).
Sophomore Noah Hudnall took fourth in the 200m dash (24.63), while Rayne Chavez-Major took ninth (25.73). Junior Derek Trompke (1:23.29) and Luke Lewandowski (1:25.40) placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 600y race. Sophomore Zane Eggleston also participated in the 400m, finishing sixth (53.79) in the race.
In the field events, freshman Spencer Hille had the second best jump of 6'2.25" in the high jump and junior Markus Vigil finished in fifth (6'0.50"). Hille also competed in the long jump, earning a fifth place finish (21'2"). Freshman Cody Defeo finished right behind him in sixth place (20'9.75"). Chavez-Major was 10th (20'1") and junior Chance Elwood was 12th (19'9").
In the shot put, senior Evan Morara was the Broncos' highest finisher, taking ninth (41'10"). Freshman Trey Parriott was right behind in 10th with a throw of 41'3.75', followed by sophomore Titus Glanz at 11th (41'0.25") and Jorge Vazquez at 12th (40'7.50").
Senior Payton Lane had the Broncos' best performance in the weight throw by taking sixth (50'8"), followed by freshman Norman Smith in 7th (50'4.75"). Junior Edward Pallotto placed ninth (46'7.25"), Parriott was 13th (40'6.75") and Glanz was 14th (39'8").
The Broncos will compete next at the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic in Crete, NE on Saturday, Jan. 11.
