Kaz and Gallaway Take 4th at Conner Oppenheim Open
(Crete, NE) – Hastings competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open in the single-day event hosted by Doane University.
Junior Larissa Kaz had a great day for the Broncos, taking fourth at 131. She had a bye in her first round, then won by a 10-0 technical fall versus Doane in the second round. In the third round she defeated her University of Saint Mary opponent 12-0 on another tech fall. Kaz followed that up with a 11-0 tech fall quarterfinal win over William Penn before falling in the semifinals, then after a forfeit win in her first consolation match, she dropped the third place match to take fourth.
Sophomore Reagen Gallaway also performed well, starting by pinning her first opponent at 138, then beating her Valiant Prep opponent on a 12-2 technical fall. She also won her quarterfinal match by tech fall over Doane before losing her quarterfinal match. Gallaway rebounded on the consolation side with a 14-4 tech fall over Grand View. She then pinned her William Penn opponent at the 4:24 mark, as well as her Friends oppenent at the 2:57 mark, before falling in the third place match to take fourth.
Senior Tabitha Wood pinned both of her opponents within the first 80 seconds at 138, then after a third round loss, she picked up another pin over Baker before losing her second consolation match. Junior Brianna Miller also won her first round match at 138 by pin, and after a loss, she won by fall again in her lone consolation match win.
Freshman Izzy Deeds pinned her second round opponent at 160 just 33 seconds into the match following her first-round bye. She took care of her first consolation opponent, winning by fall at the 1:49 mark before losing her next match. Senior Brooke Schilke made a mark on the consolation side at 160 after dropping her opening match. She defeated her Carl Albert opponent by tech fall, then pinned another Carl Albert competitor. She advanced another round by forfeit before her final loss.
Freshman Carlie Nelson won her second round match after her first-round bye via pin at the 2:07 mark at 145, but lost her next two matches. Sophomore Rayleigh Guyer was able to win three matches all by decision at 110 on the consolation side after losing her opening match. Junior Taylor Rickley dropped her opening match at 207, but did pick up a consolation win by fall over the University of Providence.
Up next, Hastings will host a dual versus Northern Oklahoma College on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2pm. The senior night match will take place in Lynn Farrell Arena.
